What is LASIK?

LASIK is the most well-known form of laser vision correction. This outpatient procedure offers almost immediate vision improvement, with little to no discomfort and rapid recovery.

During LASIK

What is PRK?

PRK is an outpatient procedure that eliminates the risk of flap complications. It is a proven alternative to LASIK and was actually the first form of laser vision correction.

During PRK

  • The outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is gently removed
  • A laser reshapes the cornea to correct vision
  • The surface layer naturally regenerates over several days


Benefits of PRK

  • No corneal flap (better for patients with thinner corneas)
  • Excellent long-term visual outcomes
  • PRK is ideal for patients where corneal structure or lifestyle makes LASIK less optimal (e.g., contact sport athletes, military, first responders).
